Franco Losvizzero was born in 1973 in Rome, Italy. After completing his secondary education at the sciences high school, he graduated from Rome’s Accademia delle Belle Arti under Professor Trotti. Then, turning to photography, he obtained a degree from the European Institute of Design in Rome. Drawing, oil painting and, more recently, sculpture are at the basis of his artistic research.

In 1996 he moved to London to extend his studies at the Thames Valley University. He also started making frequent visits to New-York and the United States, which would deeply influence his work. More particularly, works by Bruce Nauman, American pop artists, and Bacon, brought him to an investigation of the unconscious, an exploration the artist also carried by attending classes in autogenic training, acting classes centred on the Stanislavsky method, and the study of psycho-philosophical disciplines. Sculptures, robots, mechanisms, installations and paintings present the unfiltered, dream-like visions of this young artist.

In 1998, he won a scholarship from the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida. He was also among the six Italian artists selected for an exchange project between Italy and Egypt which brought him to work for six months on an exhibition held at the fine arts academy in Luxor.

In 2000, he founded the Porto Ercole Biennale di Arte Contemporanea that, after the first four exhibitions, decided to move to Rome to Castel Sant’Angelo, changing its name to Biennale in TRANSito.

Losvizzero has also contributed to the making of a number of short films, besides directing video clips and a documentary on the circus.
